Turkish Airlines Free Hotel in Istanbul: Complete Guide

Turkish Airlines runs two distinct programs at Istanbul Airport (IST) that travelers commonly conflate: a free hotel stopover for voluntary 20-72 hour layovers, and Touristanbul guided city tours for 6-24 hour layovers. The two cannot be combined on the same trip.
The free hotel benefit
The hotel benefit is cabin- and route-tiered. Economy passengers get one night at a 4-star property; Business gets two nights at a 5-star or boutique. Travelers ticketed from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, mainland China (PVG/CAN/PEK), Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, or Indonesia receive the enhanced tier (Economy 2 nights, Business 3 nights, all 5-star), and India (BOM/DEL) qualifies at the standard tier. N and R fare classes are excluded from the hotel benefit regardless of cabin.
Touristanbul guided tours
Touristanbul tours run several themed routes covering Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Dolmabahce, and the Bosphorus. The 2026 refresh introduced hybrid and fuel-efficient buses with onboard Wi-Fi, smaller group sizes, expanded Hagia Sophia and Topkapi access, and a rotating calendar of cultural events. Meals, ground transport, guides, and museum fees are included.
How to book each one
Booking the hotel benefit requires the online Booker form (last name plus ticket number) at turkishairlines.com or a country-specific stopover email; there is no single global address. Apply at least 72 hours before the accommodated flight. Touristanbul itself does not require pre-booking — register at the Touristanbul desk in IST Arrivals 30 minutes before tour departure.
Two procedural traps
Two procedural traps catch travelers. First, the ticket must start with the 235 (TK) prefix on TK-operated segments; codeshares disqualify, even on Star Alliance partners. Second, only one stopover is permitted per round-trip, on either the outbound or the return, never both.
Getting to your hotel
Airport-to-hotel transfers are not an airline benefit. Some partner properties (Hilton Bomonti, Conrad Bosphorus, Sheraton Levent, Marriott Sisli, Le Meridien Etiler, Radisson Blu Sisli) operate their own free shuttles; confirm at booking. Plan for roughly 45-60 minutes from IST to central Istanbul depending on traffic.
