Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information GetStopover (“we”, “our”, “us”) collects when you use our website, how we use it, and the choices you have. We’ve written it in plain English. Where we use a technical term, we explain it.
1. Who we are
GetStopover is a travel-comparison site that helps travelers find airline stopover programs: free hotels, tours, and other perks airlines offer during long layovers. We don’t sell flights or hotels ourselves; we surface and compare programs run by airlines and direct you to their booking pages or to our affiliate partners.
If you have privacy questions, you can reach us at priyansh0327@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Email address — if you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email and the source page (e.g. “homepage”, “programs”).
- Search inputs — the origin, destination, dates, and passport country you enter into our flight search. These are processed in real time to find matching programs and are not stored against you personally.
- Passport selection — on a program page you can choose your passport nationality to see visa requirements. This selection is added to the URL as a query parameter; we don’t store it server-side against your identity.
Information collected automatically
- Affiliate-click metadata — when you click an outbound affiliate link, we record the program you clicked, the destination URL, your referring page, your browser’s user-agent string, and a one-way hash of your IP address (SHA-256, truncated to 16 characters). We do not store your raw IP address.
- Rate-limiting metadata — for newsletter signups and affiliate redirects, we temporarily hold your IP address in memory to prevent abuse. This data is not written to long-term storage.
- Analytics — if enabled, our analytics providers (see Section 5) record page views and basic device information. Where we use Google Analytics, this includes setting cookies; where we use Plausible, no cookies are set.
We do not collect: government IDs, payment card details (we don’t process payments), precise location, contacts, or social-graph data.
3. How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- Run the search and comparison features you request.
- Send you our newsletter (only if you opt in) and a single welcome email.
- Attribute affiliate commissions to the airline and partner programs that referred you, so we can keep the site free.
- Detect and rate-limit abuse, scraping, and spam.
- Understand which pages are popular and where the site can be improved.
We do not sell your personal information, and we don’t use it for ad targeting or profile-building beyond the affiliate attribution described in Section 6.
5. Third-party services we use
We use a small number of third-party services to run the site. Each service receives only the minimum data needed for its job.
- Supabase — our database. Stores program data, anonymized affiliate clicks, and review data. It does not receive your raw IP or any direct personal data.
- Vercel — our hosting provider. Receives standard request data (IP, user-agent) needed to deliver pages.
- Beehiiv — our newsletter platform. Receives your email if you subscribe.
- SendGrid — sends a welcome email after newsletter signup.
- Google Analytics 4 (if enabled) — aggregate page-view analytics.
- Plausible (if enabled) — cookieless aggregate analytics.
- Skimlinks (if enabled) — auto-affiliate wrapper for outbound links to merchant sites.
- Affiliate networks — Travelpayouts, CJ Affiliate, Viator, and Booking.com are loaded only when you click an outbound link. After redirect, those sites operate under their own privacy policies.
- Duffel (if enabled) — flight search API. Receives only your search inputs (origin, destination, dates).
6. Affiliate disclosure
GetStopover earns a commission when you click certain links and complete a booking on partner sites. This is how we keep the site free.
When you click an affiliate link, we may add tracking parameters to the destination URL (for example, a partner ID like marker, aid, or pid) so the partner can attribute the booking back to us. The partner site then sets its own cookies on its domain.
Affiliate relationships do not change the price you pay or the search results we show you. Programs are ranked on data quality and traveler ratings, not commission rate.
7. Data retention
- Newsletter email: kept until you unsubscribe (every newsletter we send includes an unsubscribe link).
- Affiliate-click records: retained for up to 24 months for commission reconciliation, then deleted or aggregated.
- Analytics data: retained per the provider’s default (Google Analytics: up to 14 months for event data; Plausible: indefinite aggregate, no individual data).
- Rate-limiting data: held in memory only and discarded when the rate-limit window expires (typically 1 hour or less).
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your data (we’ll delete your newsletter record on request; affiliate-click records hold no direct identifier).
- Object to processing or withdraw consent (you can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time).
- Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email priyansh0327@gmail.com from the address you signed up with. We’ll respond within 30 days.
9. International users
GetStopover is operated from the United Kingdom. Our hosting and analytics providers may transfer data internationally (typically to the United States and European Union). Where required, transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, the UK GDPR, or the CCPA respectively. The list in Section 8 covers the substance of those rights.
10. Children’s privacy
GetStopover is intended for adult travelers. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed or otherwise sent us data, contact us and we’ll remove it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be announced on the homepage or via the newsletter before they take effect.
