Qatar Airways Doha Stopover: Free 5-Star Hotel
Qatar Airways operates two stopover offerings out of Hamad International (DOH) that look similar in marketing but differ sharply in price and eligibility: a free Stopover Paid by Carrier (STPC) for short layovers, and the paid Qatar Stopover packages for longer voluntary stays.
STPC eligibility is narrow and precise. The layover must fall between 8 and 24 hours, the one-way base fare must be at least USD 400 (award and Avios redemptions disqualify), and the eligible booking classes are Economy Y/B/H/K/M/L/V/S/N/Q, Business J/C/D/I/P, and First F/A. The current STPC policy took effect on August 1, 2024.
Where STPC places you depends on cabin. Economy passengers get a 3-star hotel; Business gets 4-star with 5-star attempted first; First gets 5-star. Airport transfers are included, plus cabin-tiered meal vouchers — Economy QAR 100 (11-19h layover) or QAR 150 (19-24h); Business and Premium get QAR 175 or QAR 250 by the same brackets.
The paid Qatar Stopover packages are a separate product, marketed via Discover Qatar. They cover 12-96 hour layovers and price by tier: Standard 4-star from $14 per person per night room-only, Premium 5-star from $24, Premium with beach access from $31, and Luxury 5-star with breakfast from $83. The paid-package terms were revised in April 2025; bookings cap at two per ticket.
To request STPC, contact Qatar Airways reservations once your ticket meets the threshold; the booking deadline is 72 hours before departure. Paid packages book at discoverqatar.qa, by email at dqstopover@qatarairways.com.qa, or by phone at +974 4144 5150.
Schedule note for 2026 planning: full restoration of the 150-plus destination network is targeted for 16 June 2026 following the regional airspace disruption that constrained service in 2025. Verify your routing before assuming a stopover-friendly connection is live.
